Mistakes Made in the Garden

Gardening MistakesRecently, I had read a blog post called ‘Gardening Mistakes’ that called on all us gardeners to look back and take stock on the past year’s blunders, mess ups, and general mistakes that took place in our flower beds.

New gardeners will do well to read the common mistakes the more experienced folks makes as a learning tool and a confidence booster; just because we have experience doesn’t mean we don’t make mistakes.

The article I had read talked about some mistakes we have all surely made. One of the biggest for me is forgetting to plant anything for a particular season resulting in empty space for months at a time. Be mindful of planting seasons. Gardening takes a significant amount of planning ahead and thinking forward.

If you miss a planting season, then there is really not much that can be done. You just have to deal with it and hope that not too many people notice.  This mistake is really an aesthetic one and not one that will damage your garden or plants.

Another common mistake I find new gardeners make come when they set out to plan their flower beds. You may be eager to produce a bed that is absolutely bursting out with colorful blooms and foliage, but remember that less is more especially when it comes to flowers.

As you plan out your garden make sure that you do not squeeze to many plants in to the space provided.

Flowers and plants grow, remember, and while the first few stages in the plants’ life may fit well within your garden, the next few months can easily become a tangled suffocated display of fauna and flora.

This is especially true if you want to try your hand at planting a meadow which is quickly becoming in vogue and very stylish among gardeners.

Remember, your garden defines you and your house. A stylish and modern garden will accentuate your property and display your design savvy while a suffocated mass of flowers will only turn away any admirers.

As you plant keep in mind the flowering seasons, the amount of plants, and how each plant will work with the others in both size but in color.

I had the same mistake too. I forgot to plan my gardening so it took me months to plant another because of the season. I was so careless before because I am a beginner. But now my garden bloomed so well. It is now my new pastime and I really love doing this. I’ll continue reading more of the blogs in here.

Great! It’s easy when you first get started to just jump in without looking, so to speak. Planning takes a little time to get your head around until it becomes like second nature to you. Even when you have more experience, sometimes you still skip this step. Thanks for visiting my blog and sharing your thoughts with me! – MAB

I love this blog. I can relate because all of the things mentioned was once my mistake. Specially when I was just starting out, it was like “OMG! How to plant a seed?”. But then after all of the studies I’ve done, I can now say that I’m good at it already.

I have two magnificent Gardenia shrubs in my front yard which I am so proud of. Last year I took several terminal cutting, rooted them and transplanted them into small pots. They grew well but later signs of iron defeciency appeared on them. Without reading the instruction the package, I watered these new plants with iron-chelate solution. The result was loosing all the plants. I propagated new plants last spring but used very diluted solution of iron-chelate. The plnts are doing very well and I gave some of them to friends.
